“Same-sex marriages in Sweden are officially recognized in the country starting from May 1, 2009, following the adoption of a new, gender-neutral law on marriage by the Swedish parliament on April 1, 2009, making Sweden the seventh country in the world to open marriage to same sex couples nationwide.”

About friggin time!!
The only party that were apposed this law was the Christian Democrats.
I’m just bugged that it’s taken this long, but I guess I should be happy that it happened at all.
“Since February 1st 2003, LGBT people in a registered partnership have the same adoption rights as married couples. With regards to foreign adoptions, the Ministry of Justice states; “As regards adoption from abroad, it is important that we are sensitive and aware that those countries with which Sweden cooperates often hold a different view on homosexual people and homosexual parenthood. Cooperation regarding inter-country adoptions must be based on trust. This means that the limitations and terms that the countries of origin lay down must be complied with.
In 2005, a new law was passed allowing lesbian couples to be treated for assisted insemination in public hospitals.
From 1 May 2009, the Registered Partnership Act has been repealed. So intern all committed couples can now apply for adoption.”

In my opinion there’s no reason for gay couples to not be able to have kids. I’m really annoyed by those who bring religion into the discussion. “God made a man and a woman so that they could reproduce, same sex couples can’t have kids, it’s unnatural”. Ahhh shuush! Does that mean that infertile couples shouldn’t be able to adopt either??
I see it like this: If there is a God and there’s a plan to all this, isn’t it possible that God planned it this way, so that orphans would be able to have a loving home?
I’m proud that Sweden is such a LGBT-friendly country, I am, but the prejudice naysayers that live in this country needs to wake up and smell the ignorance, get their heads out of their asses and realize that they need to get onboard. This is the future where everyone is equal. Welcome!
